Chikitsa is a community health initiative by General OP Malhotra (Retd), PVSM. It currently provides free community based primary health care (free consultations and free medicines) to over 100,000 patients annually out of 3 base clinics and 11 mobile clinics in Delhi-NCR. The unique feature of its operation is that it uses locations provided to them for free, by local bodies or community organisations, thus vastly reducing overhead costs and freeing up funds that can be used to treat more patients. By providing free, high quality community-based primary healthcare, Chikitsa reduces the burden on an already overcrowded and stressed government secondary and tertiary level public health system.
Chikitsa has treated over 30,000 OPD patients at Sector 40 in Gurgaon's Primary Health Clinic and over 53,000 registered patients at its RK Puram primary Health Care Clinic. It has done 2,141 underpriviledged school children's health check up.
