SAHAYOG works with grassroot women’s organisations and adolescent groups comprising rural and marginalized communities like dalits, tribals, poor rural and minorities. It raises awareness and builds the capacities of women, men, adolescent girls and boys from these marginalised communities about their rights and entitlements. This enables the marginalised women and youth to monitor various government schemes and generate grassroots evidence. The grassroot evidence generated is shared with the Block, District and State level officials during dialogues with the objective of advocating for the provision of improved services.
Empowered marginalised women to raise their voices on health rights issues and demand accountability by establishing a women's forum called the Mahila Swasthya Adhikar Manch (MSAM) in seven districts of UP with over 8,000 women. MSAM leaders are monitoring entitlements and advocating for the realisation of entitlements related to maternal health, public distribution system, ICDS, maternity entitlements and livelihoods. It has enabled marginalised women to use a toll-free number to register complaints on informal payments. There are 12,000 women and 4,000 adolescent youth associated with SAHAYOG.
