Economic, social and community development
Guide Star No. :
SEWA Rural started with a 30-bed hospital in Jhagadia. Over the years, the work expanded into community-based health care. The successful management of the primary health centre and delivery of safe motherhood and newborn care at the doorstep, covering entire Jhagadia, were some of the main accomplishments. A comprehensive eye-care programme was started for good low-cost eye care. Later, a training centre in primary health care, a vocational training centre and the women empowerment programme with income generation was established
The Community Health Project serves a population of about 5,00,000 using mobile phone technology and has helped to reduce the infant and maternal mortality rates significantly among this population. The 200-bed Kasturba Hospital provides quality medical care to about 2,000 villages. The comprehensive eye care programme provides speciality eye care to a population of around 20lac.
