Culture and Recreation
Slums are the breeding grounds for anti-social elements. In order to prevent children from landing into Remand Homes, Sona Soarovar, an NGO founded by a retired employee of the Reserve Bank of India, started Bal Sanskar Varg (Cultural Center for Children) and added tuition classes as most of the parents are illiterate or do not have time for them as they are busy with their work. It also takes up water projects nearby. It also has two self-help groups of women of slum areas.
500 children sent to school and 700 malnourished children given health treatment. 5 of its children were selected for a workshop at J J School of Arts & received certificates from the Dean. For past 4 years, its children have given dance performances at Bhaidas Hall as well as H K College.
